Most server room projects we are called into start the same way: someone asks for a quote on two servers and a rack. The specification is rarely the thing that decides whether the room works. This is the checklist our engineers run on site first.
1. Power before compute
How many circuits feed the room, and are they shared with plant equipment? What is the actual measured UPS runtime, and when was the generator changeover last tested under load? A rack drawing more than the circuit supports is the most common single cause of an unplanned shutdown we see.
2. Cooling and the summer case
Ambient temperature has to be assessed at the worst hour of the worst month, not on the day of the survey. Rooms sized on a pleasant February afternoon are the ones that fail in May.
3. Segregation of traffic
Shop-floor machines, office users, CCTV and any guest access should not share one broadcast domain. Separating them is a design decision made once and is far cheaper than retrofitting. This is the core of our Networking & Design work, and it depends on switching that can actually enforce it — see Networking Architecture.
4. Cabling you can maintain
Patch panels, labelling and a dressed rack are not cosmetic. They decide whether adding a machine in year three takes twenty minutes or half a day, and whether a fault can be traced at all.
5. The recovery question
Ask where the backup physically sits. If the only copy is in the room with the server, the plant has one incident between itself and its production data. Off-site replication and a tested restore are what turn a backup into recovery — the substance of Disaster Recovery & Backup.
6. Coverage on the floor
Metal racking, moving machinery and reinforced walls make manufacturing among the hardest environments for wireless. A heat-mapped survey before purchase avoids buying access points that cannot cover what they were bought for — part of our Managed WiFi Solution.
7. Who owns it on day 91
Warranty is not maintenance. Decide before handover who performs preventive visits, who holds spares and what the response time is. That is what an AMC Contract defines.
Putting it together
When these seven answers are known, the hardware choice becomes straightforward — the Servers & Storage specification falls out of the load and the recovery target. Where a plant wants one partner for the civil, electrical, cabling and commissioning work, we deliver it as End to End IT Infra Setup.
